If I were self disciplined, life would be as it should be and I would be happy. Do you think this is a true statement? Many have this belief. The good news is that life doesn’t work this way. No amount of self discipline will ever give anyone control over life. And exactly how much self discipline is the right amount? Too littler entails lack of will power and lack of follow through. Too much entails no spontaneity and no relaxation.
First, let’s clarify who set the goal. Did you really want to eat heathy or is it the society telling you that you are too fat/thin/etc? Do you really have your own mind to decide what goal you want? Everything you have tried for as long as you can remember has been under the direction of a socially conditioned mind.
To become free from this and to find your true inner direction, first we want to start observing ourselves. In the morning, when you wake up, notice what you want to do rather than what you should do. Can you hear your own voice? Do this throughout the day. Did you hear the society (parents, teachers, bosses, partners, etc.) telling you what to do?
Second, you want to dis-identify from the voices of the society so that you can claim your own. Dis-identification is stepping back, creating a distance so you can watch conditioned mind instead of being caught in it and believing it. So instead of using the society’s rule about my fat/thin,etc., you decide for yourself how you feel in your body.
Third, now that you identified your true voice, you want to be present in the moment in your body. This will help you make a decision for your goal. You don’t need self discipline. You need true presence in yourself in the moment.
