Accept Myself?

Self acceptance is to receive and acknowledge ourselves, all that we are at the moment. After learning about human psychology over 30 years, one most important thing for me is this: accepting myself or embracing myself completely. Does it sound easy? Do you accept yourself completely? No matter how imperfect I am, accepting myself gives me space to see all that I am:  Good, Bad, and Ugly. When I do this, I am taking the power instead of giving the power to others to validate me.

Let’s differentiate that self acceptance does not mean I condone everything I do.  When I accept myself, I can own my thoughts, feelings and decisions.  Because of this, I am that much closer to change anything I don’t like and keep everything I do like.

Self Acceptance is the opposite of self denial and self fragmentation.  In denial, we internalizes our painful emotions.  They hide in underground to ensure their continuous existence.  They use blaming others, avoiding responsibilities and making countess excuses.  In self fragmentation, we disown parts that we don’t want to face.

Radical self acceptance is like a spiritual experience. The moment you get in touch with your total being, growth and integration begins.  In spirituality, we are loved not because we are perfect.  We are loved in spite of our imperfection.  Done over time, we will sustain peace within ourselves.
